Disabled cast member sues Disney World for ‘unlawful conduct’ and unsafe conditions

A cast member at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Central Florida is suing the company for alleged illegal practices and unsafe working conditions, court records show.

For many, Walt Disney World Resort is the hub of Disney magic. However, The Most Magical Place On Earth may occasionally be embroiled in controversy, lawsuits, or bad press. From CEO Bob Chapek’s handling of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, to the ongoing controversy over the Reedy Creek Improvement District, and multiple on-site accidents that have spawned legal battles, everything is n It’s not all pixie dust at the main Disney Resort.

As was the case with Cast Member Ana Graves. Employee of The Walt Disney Company is suing Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts, US Inc. for alleged illegal practices. In documents acquired from the Orange County Clerk’s Office, the complaint details Ms. Graves’ experience when she worked at Walt Disney World and how her disability – a knee injury – affected her job at the Mouse House .

As the document states:

This is a proceeding for damages to remedy discrimination on the basis of disability affecting the terms, conditions, and privileges of employment and to remedy the disenfranchisement guaranteed to the plaintiff by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, 42 USC § 12112 et. after. (“ADA”).

The plaintiff had been an employee of Walt Disney World since August 2021, working as a supervisor. Ms Graves suffers from a knee injury, a condition her employer was aware of but was given a job where she was unable to complete training due to the physical work and pressure it brought imposed on his injury.

Although she has medical records as proof of her workplace limitations, her request to take on another, less physical role was reportedly denied. Ms Graves again asked to be placed in another role, such as a customer service position, but was again refused by the defendant. According to court records, no such transfer took place. Thus, as stated above, violating the ADA.

Ms Graves, “as a direct and immediate result of the defendant’s unlawful conduct”, has and will continue “to suffer damages”. The complaint ends with the result sought by the plaintiff. It says:

THEREFORE, Plaintiff, ANA GRAVES, seeks judgment against Defendant for all damages recoverable under the ADA, including punitive damages, and costs, expenses, attorneys’ fees and any other legal relief the Court deems just and appropriate. .

The court case was opened on September 9, 2022 and is ongoing. The plaintiff is asking for a jury trial.

Walt Disney World Resort has four theme parks: Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT Park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park.
